You'd think that a massive operation like Marvel Studios would have the resources and the common sense to contact the person set to play one of the biggest superheroes on the planet, but nope. Nooooope.

The search for the MCU's Spider-Man was the hottest news story of 2015, with numerous talented young actors - Asa Butterfield, Logan Lerman, Nat Wolff - being thrown around as possible candidates. In June of that year the search finally came to an end, with Marvel officially announcing that Tom Holland had landed the part.

Only... they forgot to tell him.

Holland relayed the funny story to Ellen in 2017, mentioning that he saw a Marvel Instagram post directing people to their website, which would reveal who was playing the new Spider-Man. Upon clicking the link, he discovered that it was himself.

Kevin Feige called him shortly after to confirm the news, but either way, we can't imagine that the actor was too mad at the studio for the slip-up.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
