10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About The MCU

8. Stan Lee Wanted To Play Odin

Stan Lee's famous cameos are a nifty treat for MCU fans to look forward to with each new release, but when the cinematic universe was in its earliest stages, things almost worked out quite differently.

In 2009 - with cameos in Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk under his belt - the comic-book legend hinted that he wasn't entirely satisfied with bit-parts in these movies, and wanted a role that was a bit more substantial.

In a video interview with Collider, Lee started by saying that he wanted a "bigger cameo" in future Marvel movies, before adding that he was "very upset" with the upcoming Thor movie for not considering him to play the role of Odin.

Obviously there's an element of jest at play here, but you really do get the impression that Lee wants a bigger part and that he thinks he'd be a good fit for Odin.

Thor's daddy was introduced to Marvel comics by Lee and Jack Kirby in the '60s, and is one of the most powerful beings in the universe. So having Lee play the role would've been quite fitting, given the power and influence he's had over the comic-book world.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
