10 Mind-Blowing Film Rumours That Turned Out To Be Fake
10. Star Wars: "Vader Seduces Leia"
In the golden age of rumour-spreading - basically any time before the creation of the internet - in which nonsense and hearsay were circulated about upcoming films in print magazines and water-cooler conversations, it was relatively easy for a genuinely ridiculous rumour or two to pick up traction for a while before it was debunked. And so it was in the early 1980s during Star Wars' heyday, when periodicals like Starlog and Fantastic Films would print juicy nuggets about the upcoming films in the sci-fi franchise, such as Princess Leia being "captured by Stormtroopers and delivered to Darth Vader who, by use of the force, seduces her into betraying Luke and Han." Darth Vader? Seducing Leia? Oh my. Other rumours abound, including some favoured by an actual employee of Lucasfilm, Craig Miller. There are plenty to go around, but this one may be the most wilfully insane: "The Millennium Falcon passes through a time warp, and Luke, Han and Chewbacca end up fighting in the Clone Wars, side by side with Luke's father and Obi Wan Kenobi." When the Star Wars films would ever have found the time to make any of these fever dreams a reality is beyond us, but we do so wish that last one had been true, at least for a moment.
