10 Mind-Blowing Hidden Clues You Never Noticed In Classic Movies

8. Red Calls Andy's Plan A "Sh*tty Pipe Dream" - The Shawshank Redemption

Shawshank RedemptionThe Shawshank Redemption is a movie about a wrongly convicted criminal named Andy Dufresne, who befriends a long time jailbird called Red, and what happens during their time together in the titutal Shawshank prison. At one particularly memorable part of the movie, Andy begins telling Red about his ambitions to escape to an obscure place in Mexico, to which Red - ever the realist - tells him: "I don't think you should be doing this to yourself, Andy. It's just sh*tty pipe dreams. I mean, Mexico is way the hell down there, and you're in here." Although the first time we hear that line it doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary, in retrospect it's actually a brilliant clue as to how Andy will eventually escape from Shawshank at the end of the movie: via a sh*tty pipe! I'm not kidding: in Red's own beautifully narrated words, Andy Dufrense "crawled through a river of shit and came out clean on the other side." He slowly chips away at the wall in his cell over a number of years, and uses a sewage pipe to crawl to freedom. His so-called "sh*tty pipe dream" manifested itself... well, through a sh*tty pipe! Beautiful!
