10 Mind-Blowing Movie Details You Totally Missed
3. A Most Peculiar Name - Pulp Fiction
Pulp Fiction is one of the most iconic 1990s films and marked Quentin Tarantino as an auteur following his impressive debut in Reservoir Dogs. The darkly humorous crime story’s non-linear structure gave room for its colorful collection of characters to shine, as well as its now-quotable dialogue.
Tarantino is well-known for his lyrical (or self-indulgent depending on who you ask) approach to dialogue but the director's attention is also noteworthy. This can be seen in scenes such as the Operation board game being present in the scene where Mia receives an adrenaline shot and the "Big Jerry Cab Co" cab company that served as a homage to Tarantino's friend in his video clerk days, Jerry Martinez.
However, one of the most amusing and clever details comes in the film's credits, where actor Robert Ruth is credited as "Coffee Shop". This is a reference to the coffee shop robbery scene where Tim Roth's Pumpkin aggressively interrupts the manager before he can complete the line "I am not a hero, I am just a coffee shop-''.
In the moment it seems like a throwaway line in a scene focused on the violence being enacted by Pumpkin but the credits elevates it to a sillier, literal interpretation of Ruth's now-famous line.
