8. Superman Vs Predator

Freddy Vs Stephen
DC Comics

One of the most impressive things about the Superman vs Predator is that the alien in question doesn’t appear for roughly 30 pages, and yet it’s still a pretty engaging comic. Better still, when he does appear, he ends up being able to communicate with Superman, and in a tone that is decidedly cheery for a professional space assassin.

Sass notwithstanding, the actual build-up to and fight between Superman and the Predator is surprisingly well-executed. The presence of innocent humans and Superman’s powers fading in and out due to alien shenanigans develops a genuine level of anticipation, and while you know you’re not going to see the Man of Steel murdered, he does fail far more in the comic than you’d expect.

Also, the Predator in it is a weirdly nice guy, so if you’ve ever wanted to root for a fanged space murderer, now’s your chance.
