7. Dejah Thoris John Carter
John Carters plot mightve been halfway interesting if they hadnt overloaded the entire affair with several Barsoom novels-worth of stories, although they did tastefully omit the whole everyone-walking-around-naked thing. As it was, the whole thing was a narrative mess, attempting to marry kingly strife with a story about the supernatural Illuminati and Johns own fish-out-of-water tale. Yet halfway through this film they couldve knocked this whole rival clan war thing right off the table, if Dejah Thoris hadnt have been so wildly stupid. How was she stupid? Well, picture this. Dejah, as a Princess of Mars, finds herself in an unenviable position of a bargaining chip when it comes to diplomacy. Namely, she can be married off to sworn enemies, something she isnt too thrilled with and makes abundantly clear when they attempt to give her to Dominic Wests Sab Tharn in an effort to stop him muderising everything. Though Tharn is insincere in his motives to spare the rival kingdom, he still seems pretty keen to marry Dejah, to the extent that he offers her his own life if she doesnt want to marry him. Strangely, Dejah doesnt just seize the opportunity to murder the guy she hates. I suppose his forces wouldve razed Helion if she did kill him, but as far as she knew, the situation was pretty much screwed up anyway. She knew she was doomed, and she didnt even summon the initiative to kill the opposing general, a chance she surely wouldnt get at any other point.
