10 Minor Film Characters Whose Lives Were Probably Ruined Forever

8. The Old Man & The Car - Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade

During his third and final - yes, final - adventure (which happens to involve a whole lot of thwarting Nazis and preventing religious artefacts from falling into the wrong hands), Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) - alongside his father Henry Jones Snr., played by Sean Connery - must find a way to escape from a blimp as it changes direction and heads back towards the bad guys. Indy and his father hijack a small plane and end up crash landing in desert terrain, whereupon they're pursued by fighter planes with machine guns. To escape this situation, Indy and his dad quickly steal a car from an man who we see is very, very old and - from the looks of his clothes - very, very poor. As this old man tries to fix a hubcap to the wheel of his vehicle, Indy drives off in it, leaving the poor guy to stare at his disappearing vehicle in total and utter wonderment, completely unaware as to what just happened. This is played for a hilarious joke by Steven Spielberg, of course, but in reality it's actually rather horrific stuff. It's quite possible, after all, that this was the old man's pride and joy - and it's even more likely that it was his prized possession, given how decrepit and worn he looks: what if it's all he has left in the world? But that might not even be the worst possible situation here: it's actually entirely possible that the old man was fixing the car for somebody else, and now has to explain why it was found burned out in a crater down on the beach front. He doesn't look like he has a lot of cash to spare either, so how would he pay the money back? However you look at this situation, Indy and his dad have indadvertedly robbed a man of something incredibly important. Who's going to compensate for that?
