10 Minor Film Characters Whose Lives Were Probably Ruined Forever
7. All The Folk Marty Robbed Out Of Their Inventions - Back To The Future Trilogy
Back to the Future concerns the adventures of a time travelling teenager, Marty McFly, who ends up going back to the 1950s in a DeLorean and accidently stopping his parents from meeting - for some reason he has an allotted amount of time to get them back together, or he won't be born. The franchise series spans three films, and over the course of these films, Marty can often be seen utilising things that haven't been invented in the past, but are considered normal in his own time. Things like: well... frisbees and skateboards. What a lot of people don't seem to realise, however, is that Marty is showcasing these items before they've been invented, and is therefore inventing them as far as the "new" future timeline is concerned. Thus, whoever witnesses Marty using the frisbee or the skateboard is - technically - the most likely candidate to go on to invent them. Which means that Marty is, rather unashamedly, ruining the lives of the people who really invented this things in the original timelines (the one that he hadn't meddled in). This might sound insane and incredibly complicated to work out, but when you think about it, the mere notion of this plucky teen utilising inventions that haven't been invented is robbing the actual inventors out of their great lives and massive fortunes. We can only presume that the person who goes on to "invent" the frisbee and the skateboard in the new, Marty-affected timeline is a different person from the original inventor, an idea that is backed up by the fact that the inventions existed in the original timeframe before Marty even went back in time. Headache? Let's move on before it gets any worse.
