The epic defence of the Rebel base at Hoth is one of the finest set pieces in the entire Star Wars series. In its chaotic battle, a hundred tales of heroism and cowardice are surely written the audience will never know. But one such story deserves to be heard. Let it be that of Rebel Officer Toryn Farr. She is glimpsed during the battle at Echo Base in The Empire Strikes Back and is notable as one of the only non-princess female members of the Rebellion seen in the original trilogy.

It is men and women like Toryn Farr who make up the soldiery of the Rebellion, the real heroes on whose struggle the galaxy’s freedom will be built. She knew the brutality the Empire showed its enemies, but she joined up anyway. She made a a stand.

Moviegoing audiences must see her everyday heroism to fully appreciate both the sacrifice of the Rebellion, and the cruelty of the Galactic Empire. When evil seems overwhelming, the mere act of deciding to fight it is the act of a hero. A hero like Toryn Farr.
