10 Misleading Movie Trailers That Scared You Off Amazing Movies

5. Jennifer's Body

What The Trailer Sold You:

This is literally a movie about Jennifer's body. Tantalizing, seductive, swimming in the nude Megan Fox is used as bait to entice libidos into the theaters. She makes out with Amanda Seyfried, she has back-lit sex with her busty outline distracting from the menacing story, and there's really nothing more to this than your typical sex-horror mishmash.

What You Missed:

For starters, this was written by Diablo Cody, who also penned friggin' Juno. Do you really think that screenwriter would churn out a sexploitive horror movie? [Hint: She wouldn't. And doesn't.]

Fox's character isn't a man-eater in the winking sense, she actually eats men. Jennifer's Body uses the monster as a way to subversively explore feminism without coming off as too preachy. It spends just as much time focusing on the tense politics of certain girl-on-girl high school friendships as it does splattering blood on the lens.

And Fox turns in what is perhaps the best performance of her career, presenting herself as a formidable and righteous antagonist without subserving herself to Cody's occasional campiness. Jennifer's Body is one of the more intelligent horror movies of the last decade, and even if you can't appreciate the gender politics involved, it's a genuinely thrilling and original ride all the way through.
