10 Mistakes Fanboys Won’t Admit Upcoming DC Movies Have Already Made

1. Relying Too Heavily On Chris Nolan€™s Inspiration

Yes having Nolan€™s Joker, Batman and Robin continued in a new series would be a good move, but generally speaking, Warner Bros are hamstrung by what they€™re actually taking from the Dark Knight trilogy creator. Because Nolan€™s trilogy was so success - precisely (or at least partly) because it was billed as an anti-super superhero movie - Warner Bros have extrapolated that manifesto. Man Of Steel was similarly grounded in realism, and Zack Snyder seems intent on establishing that Batman V Superman is going the same way. Despite the super-realistic elements of the source, Warner Bros are stripping away everything €œsilly€ and explaining away iconic comic book elements realistically, to continue Nolan€™s spiritual approach. That€™s why we get a Killer Croc with a skin condition. But that misses the point that the Dark Knight trilogy was fertilised in a very particular bubble: it was helped enormously by fatigue of Joel Schumacher€™s over-comic style and a general audience fondness for grit and realism built by other franchises. The context simply wasn€™t the same as DC€™s expanded universe is growing out of. And sooner or later it will all fall apart. How exactly can DC hope to stay committed to that spirit and have Enchantress fight in Suicide Squad? How exactly can Wonder Woman€™s magic be scienced away? And what the hell is realistic about Shazam? Fanboy passion will explain it all away as €œif it was good enough for Chris Nolan€, but that€™s the same inferior logic that explains away plot-holes and bad writing with €œbecause he€™s Batman€.
