10 Mistakes Marvel Need To Avoid With Black Widow

8. The Romance

The Mistake: After all the success the MCU has had, there is still one aspect of their movies that they often stumble on; the romantic subplot. There have been times where the romance has worked of course: Tony and Pepper have great back-and-forth and Steve's relationship with Peggy was genuinely touching.

It's just that there are also times where the romance feels tacked on (Ant-Man) or completely unconvincing (Thor).

Maybe worst of all, Black Widow herself was thrown into a pointless and, frankly, insulting romance with Bruce Banner in Avengers: Age of Ultron, so there very real concern they could make the same mistake twice.

The Solution: The truth is, not every summer action blockbuster needs to throw in a romance storyline, you just need a compelling and believable relationship at the core. While Starlord and Gamora do some flirting in Guardians Of The Galaxy, at the centre it was about misfits finding each other.

Captain America: The Winter Solider had maybe the most effective relationship at its centre and it was about two old friends. (No matter how much the Internet insisted they were more).

Give Black Widow a real relationship that we care about, but avoid the lazy and overused love interest. Go an unexpected route and have her attempting to save a young girl from the same Black Widow program that ruined her life.
