Even the great Alfred Hitchcock wasn't meticulous enough to stop ridiculous, scene-destroying mistakes from making it into his movies.

In his legendary thriller North by Northwest, a memorable - and otherwise fantastic - sequence in the Mount Rushmore visitor center sees femme fatale Eve Kendall (Eva Marie Saint) shoot protagonist Roger Thornhill (Cary Grant) with a gun loaded with blanks.

But a young extra in the background of the scene clues audiences in on what's about to happen by quite clearly putting his fingers in his ears a few seconds before the shot goes off.

We're going to assume the poor kid got fed up of the blank noise after shooting several takes of the scene. Didn't anybody have any ear defenders?
