10 Modern Movie Poster Trends That Need To Die
4. The Quirky Couple Stands Back To Back
Is there a movie poster cliché quite as off-putting as this one?
Before Matthew McConaughey was headlining Oscar-tipped prestige pictures, he was struggling to prop up is own body weight unaided, seemingly needing an attractive woman to lean against at all times. He wasn’t alone in this however. Plenty of actors and actresses seem entirely unable to look their co-stars in the eye, perhaps due to disagreements over pay inequality.
Facetiousness aside, these posters are unanimously awful. They do the bare minimum required to tell an audience ‘this film is about a quirky couple who have a rough time getting together, but they wind up staying pretty tight’. Just replace the background with a kitchen, the London skyline, or any other romantically inoffensive locale, and lather, rinse, repeat.
