10 Moments When Comic Book Movie Villains Were Totally Humiliated
9. Sebastian Shaw Frozen In Place For His Last Moments (X-Men First Class)
Yet another villain who forgot to mind his surroundings during a key moment of hubris. Sebastian Shaw, a quite impressive master manipulator throughout most of this film, used a mind-protecting helmet to repel Professor X during the Cold War standoff, but he forgot to consider just how bad it was to let Magneto into his metal submarine. Wearing a mind-protecting helmet is all well and good to repel a telepath, but Shaw forgot to be cautious when confronting Magneto in a room made of metal. Using this advantage, Magneto is able to snatch away the helmet with a spare tendril of copper wires, allowing Charles to freeze Shaw where he stands. And so, for the entire scene afterwards, Shaw watches helplessly as Erik monologues for a good several minutes, before slowly pushing a coin through his brain. While the scene is extremely cathartic from Magneto's perspective, one can only imagine how frustrated Shaw must have been while frozen during this monologue and cruelly slow execution. This simple bait & switch was an embarrassingly simple way for this villain's plans to fall apart, but the stasis only makes it worse for him, especially while being brained by a coin. What a way to go.
