10 More Actors Tricked Into Appearing In Movies
8. Bill Murray Was Pitched A Superior Sequel - Ghostbusters II
Much has been written about Bill Murray's hilarious claim that he was fooled into voicing Garfield in 2004's live-action movie by confusing co-writer Joel Cohen for Joel Coen of the Coen brothers, but that's not the only movie that the funnyman was apparently conned into starring in.
The other? Ghostbusters II.
In a 2021 interview, Murray said that he was "very, very reluctant" to make a sequel to the hit comedy, feeling that it would simply be a cash-grab, but that he was ultimately "outfoxed" by the studio.
According to Murray, the original cast was brought together to hear a sequel pitch that was "really great," enough to convince Murray that Ghostbusters II might be worthwhile.
As such, Murray and the rest of the cast signed on, only for the script to ultimately be taken in another direction, enough that Murray feels he was convinced to star in the film "under false pretenses."
Given what he experienced on the first sequel, it's little surprise that he turned down a third movie for literally decades, before finally agreeing to reprise the role of Peter Venkman in 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife and its upcoming sequel.
