10 More Actors Who Prepared For Roles In The Worst Possible Way
8. Shia LaBeouf - The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman
When people think of Shia LaBeouf, they usually think a mish-mash of three things - a) his reputation for being horrendous to work with, b) his insane dedication to roles, and c) he's actually a pretty damn fine actor.
In order to get himself prepped for the title role in The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman, LaBeouf spent 24 hours taking LSD ahead of a scene where his character was supposed to be on drugs.
Clearly, getting into the mindset of your character is a must for any actor, and there have been numerous stories over the decades of people getting drunk or even mildly high ahead of shooting a certain scene. But to spend an entire day tripping your !*$% off on acid? Yeah, likely not the greatest of ideas.
Not only is spending a whole day taking drugs not a particularly great way to get ready to shoot a movie, another reason why this questionable tactic wasn't worthwhile was that LaBeouf actually took the wrong drug!
As The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman director Fredrik Bond told Vulture back in 2013, the film featured Shia's Charlie taking ecstasy and not LSD - meaning the actor had dabbled with the wrong substance as part of his nuts prep.
