Having been talked about for years, Freddy Krueger of the Elm Street franchise and Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th series finally butted heads in 2003 with Ronny Yu's Freddy vs. Jason.

Taking place across the infamous Springwood and Camp Crystal Lake locales so often stalked by Krueger and Voorhees, this match-up results in a brilliant final act war. Freddy does Freddy things by f**king with Jason's mind, chops off his rival's fingers and stabs him with his own machete, whilst Jason fires back by punching a hole in Krueger's gut and ripping off Freddy's iconic gloved arm.

The end of Freddy vs. Jason sees Freddy decapitated by final girl Lori and the two rogues fall into Crystal Lake. By the following morning, Jason emerges from the lake with the winking head of Krueger in his grasp as the credits hit.

For test audiences - and those who own the two-disc special edition DVD - they got to see a very different ending that had a scene where Lori and boyfriend Will are about to have sex. Once Will acts a little rough, his hand turns into one mirroring Freddy's famed blades.

With it unclear if Will was possessed, had become a new 'Freddy' or whether this was a dream of Lori's, the decision was made to scrap this ending.
