If there's one definitive thing that the Marvel Cinematic Universe does better than its comic counterpart, it's that when events happen, they happen. Someone might go back in time and alter them, but they always happened - they don't just suddenly get retconned or totally changed.

Small details may see themselves altered, like the Infinity Gauntlet in the first Thor film being fake, but the personal arcs of the characters are never retrospectively changed. This is exactly what causes the franchise to work so well as a collective, as whenever you watch a film, you do so knowing that whatever the heroes go through will remain a permanent facet of their lives.

It's what makes the whole thing feel like a legitimately engaging experience, as the permanence of the film's story adds a dimension that is more or less impossible to get nowadays on the written page.
