The Character

The first non-Norse character shown to be worthy of wielding Mjolnir, Beta Ray Bill is one of the nuttier figures from Thor's past, having had his consciousness transferred into an horse-alien cyborg (!), who possesses superhuman speed, strength, stamina and durability thanks to genetic engineering. Yup.

Bill was also the first entity to wield the axe Stormbreaker, and though he initially had a shaky relationship with Thor, the two eventually became pals. He generally travels the galaxy using his abilities to help out other alien races.

What Happened?

Beta Ray Bill has been sought for an MCU appearance by fans and filmmakers alike, and the character very nearly had a small role in Thor: Ragnarok, until Kevin Feige decided that he deserved more than a piecemeal one-off appearance.

Feige said, "It just didn't do justice. And the feeling is, if you can't do it justice, do it later."

Thankfully it does genuinely seem like Bill will make his MCU debut soon, with rumours swirling that he's set to appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, though it'll reportedly only be a small introduction for the character.
