The Character

One of the most beloved and long-requested characters for an introduction into the MCU, Adam Warlock is a cosmic rock star-cum-Jesus artificially created in a cocoon.

Warlock is best remembered for housing the Soul Gem in his forehead and wielding the Infinity Gauntlet in order to defeat Thanos, as well as being an original member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.

What Happened?

We all know that Adam Warlock's presence was first teased in one of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2's many mid-credits scenes, where Sovereign Ayesha (Elizabeth Debicki) can be seen gestating him in a cocoon, even referring to him as "Adam."

But Warlock is never seen on-screen, and James Gunn later confirmed that the character originally had a major role in Vol. 2 before being scrapped because the movie simply had too many characters.

He said, "I love Adam Warlock. He’s one of my favorite characters...I adored what we had done with him. I think we did something really creative and unique with Adam Warlock. But it was one character too many and I didn’t want to lose Mantis and Mantis was more organically part of the movie anyway. So I decided to save him for later."

It's still unknown whether Warlock will definitely appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, but just about every comic book fan worth their salt is crossing their fingers, their toes and everything else.
