10 More Crazy Star Wars Theories That Might Not Be Quite So Crazy
5. Rose's Romance With Finn Was Originally Intended For Poe
Here's a thought - what if Rose Tico's (Kelly Marie Tran) fleeting romantic angle with Finn (John Boyega) was originally intended for Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac)?
Following The Force Awakens' release, you might recall many interpreting Finn and Poe's apparent "bromance" as a little more than that, that their fast friendship was actually simmering sexual chemistry - something Boyega, Isaac, and J.J. Abrams all refused to discount.
Many fans hoped to see this thread picked up again in The Last Jedi, though Rian Johnson ultimately introduced Rose, a female love interest for Finn.
There's an intriguing theory among the fandom, however, that Rose's arc in the film was indeed originally intended for Poe, down to their climactic smooch on Crait, but that Disney bigwigs ultimately nixed it because of homophobia.
Rose's big moment in The Last Jedi sees her save Finn from sacrificing himself while battling the First Order, and some fans feel that this was so perfectly suited to Poe's arc - where he transforms from desperately vengeance-filled to a worthy leader - that it must've been originally written for him instead.
The most persuasive support of this theory is that Rian Johnson has freely admitted that Rose didn't exist in his original draft of the script, and that Finn and Poe initially went to Canto Bight together.
But after he realised this subplot was just "two dudes on an adventure," he created Rose to challenge and contrast with Finn.
Granted, nobody's ever gone on the record to say that Disney vetoed a romance between Finn and Poe, but considering their historic shyness where gay characters are concerned, and how much of a pathetic non-event the "gay moment" in The Rise of Skywalker was, it's incredibly easy to believe.
