10 More Dumbest Villain Plans In Movies
5. Clyde Shelton - Law Abiding Citizen
In this gnarly revenge thriller, engineer and former government assassin Clyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) seeks revenge not just on his family's killer, but also on the corrupt justice system that gave the killer a light sentence. How he does this is nothing short of crazy
After killing his family's murderer, he hands himself in and kills another inmate so that he'll be placed in solitary confinement. A series of attacks on people involved in the justice system begin and Clyde seems to be somehow involved, but he's in prison so how can he be? It eventually turns out Clyde dug tunnels from solitary confinement to his base, and he's been sneaking out and carrying out the attacks this way.
Look, however brilliant an assassin Clyde was meant to be, this plan was ridiculous. It relied on so many factors Clyde couldn't have guaranteed. What if he'd been put in a different prison? What if the prison's security had discovered the tunnels? In general, Clyde's various killings also stretched suspension of disbelief just a little too far - most notably, at one point he somehow sneaks a militarized bomb disposal robot into a graveyard and blows a car up without anyone seeing him.
Sure, there's some entertainment value to be had from the film's silliness, but it does make it hard to take the film seriously or enjoy it as anything more than an ironic guilty pleasure.
