10 More Excuses Actors Used For Blowing Major Movie Auditions
1. Jamie Foxx Got Starstruck Because Of Tom Cruise During Jerry Maguire Audition
A few years before the pair would produce big-screen magic together in Michael Mann's Collateral, Jamie Foxx came face-to-face with the movie legend that is Tom Cruise in a Jerry Maguire audition.
And things didn't exactly go smoothly for the future Oscar-winner.
On top of attempting to show off to the Top Gun star by boasting about how many houses he had, Foxx soon found himself getting a little starstruck. It's not every day you share a room with a Hollywood icon, is it?
Things then took a turn for the worse whilst Foxx was reading for the role of Rod Tidwell.
After Cruise decided to take a dramatic pause in the middle of the scene, his anxious scene-partner assumed he lost where he was in the script and foolishly tried to help him before being awkwardly told it was an intentional choice.
If that wasn't excruciating enough for the multi-talented performer, the star used to more heightened TV work then found himself struggling to adapt to Cruise's quieter delivery, too.
Simply put, Foxx never really recovered from the overwhelming feeling of meeting the big-name actor for the first time, and blames his truly terrible Jerry Maguire audition on the fact he couldn't keep his cool opposite the Risky Business star.
