7. Back To The Future (1985)
Believe it or not, most of the people I know with kids have failed to inaugurate them into the world of flux capacitors, Great Scotts and 1.21 giggawatts! Surely this is some kind of negligence! For anyone who grew up in the 80s, Back to the Future was the standard choice for kids films. It was a glorious time in cinema, where the auteurs of tomorrow were branching out into family movies, and making some of the most beloved and gold standard cinema since the mid-60s. Back to the Future has gone on to become as influential and beloved as any Indiana Jones or Ghostbusters film. The reason that this film is so important to keep in the hands of children, is that it has an absolutely brilliant plot and some excellent bridge building between generations. Back to the Future continues to prove to the kids of today, what it did to the kids of yesteryear; your parents were young once, and they understand everything you are going through. It is hard to imagine schlock such as Tinkerbelle 3 exploring the space / time continuum and still managing to fit in the fulfilling sight of bullies covered in horse manure. An absolute classic.
Parental Benefits: How often do parents get the chance to strike up a conversation with their child about time travel? Enough said. You can leave the material about explaining Martys inadvertent incest a few years though.
