10 More Great Teen Horror Movies (No One Ever Talks About)
1. Ginger Snaps (2000)
Directed by John Fawcett (co-creator of Orphan Black), Ginger Snaps follows the story of two teenage girls who have their sisterhood tested when one of them gets bitten by an unknown animal and then slowly starts to transform into a werewolf. Smart and funny, this excels remarkably well as both a supernatural horror and a feminist coming-of-age tale, all bolstered by strong performances from its cast.
It’s a real head-scratcher why this one hasn’t gotten as big a cult following as features like Jennifer’s Body and Heathers. It’s easily one of the best werewolf movies ever made. Not that the competition is heavy, but Ginger Snaps is so cleverly made it pretty much marks itself as one of the ultimate werewolf titles, much like An American Werewolf in London.
At least, it should have, but this 2000 film seems to have been largely forgotten since its release. It never seems to get the mentions it deserves when talking about the best teen horrors or the best horror comedies of all time. Ginger Snaps should definitely be on your watchlist because its biting satire and sharp writing shouldn’t be missed.
