10 More Greatest 'I'm Dead And I Know It' Moments In Movie History

3. Roy Batty's Time To Die - Blade Runner

Now, you'd be right to mention that Blade Runner's Roy Batty (Ruger Hauer) is a replicant and therefore not technically "alive" in the strict, human sense of the word.

But given that one of the film's key themes is the idea of a synthetic human evoking more humanity than an actual, flesh-and-blood person, it's fitting that Batty's poetic demise is one of the most memorable and affecting in cinema history.

Batty and his fellow replicants know from the jump that their in-built four-year lifespan is coming to an end, though this comes home to roost in highly poignant fashion at film's end.

After Batty rescues Deckard (Harrison Ford) from falling to his death, he delivers the death soliloquy to end all death soliloquys, lamenting the ephemeral nature of existence, whether human or replicant, and realising it's now his time to die. Beautiful.
