10 More Happy Movie Endings That Ignored One Devastating Thing
6. Baby Is Doubly Doomed - Baby Driver
You have to love a romantic ending that sees a character embroiled in a dangerous, criminal world finding his moral integrity, sticking it to the controlling big boss and getting the girl as well.
In Edgar Wright's swaggering, stylish crime thriller, Baby Driver, the titular character accidentally implicates himself as an informant and is forced to fight off his former crew as they understandably try to kill him. Eventually, he escapes with his life with the rest of them dead, hands himself over to police and serves a shortened term with his love - Deborah - waiting for him.
But Wait...
There are two issues here. Firstly, Baby has literally no means to support himself and Deborah on his release. His skills aren't really transferrable beyond get-away driving and it's surely only a matter of time before he turns back to crime to look after his family.
And then, even worse, Doc's gang isn't limited to the people directly involved in the film's big heist. We even meet another of them, Griff (played by Jon Bernthal) who works on another job who is LITERALLY responsible for him the security of his teams. Is this guy seriously expected just to leave Baby to himself when he's suspected of being a rat?
Even if he is dead, there'll be others just like him who will come after Baby for the deaths of Doc and his crew. He's never getting out.
