10 More Hardest To Watch Horror Movie Moments
4. Getting Out Of Arm's Way - Evil Dead (2013)
Sam Raimi's Evil Dead may have finally seen the last of its Bruce Campbell days, as the actor has vowed his time with the franchise is over, but then the series has historically been at its bloodiest and most challenging without him.
Fede Álvarez helmed the first (and definitely not last) Campbell-less flick in 2013, with Jane Levy essentially filling The Chin's boots. Álvarez pulls the franchise away from stop motion dolls and plasticine hijinks, and into the 21st century, embracing the new, full-on horror sensibility established with the likes of Hostel and Saw.
This decidedly un-squeamish approach to blood, gore and mutilation makes Evil Dead a tough watch for most, with needles in eyes, tongues split on Stanley knives, skies raining blood, and dead dogs, but even the seasoned horror aficionado will find challenge in the turkey carver scene.
Having had her hand bitten by a possessed Mia (Levy), Natalie must make some quick decisions on how to stop a black, rotting infection spreading to the rest of her body. Luckily, she's in the kitchen and there's an electric carver to hand. Blood spraying, tendons tearing, the power shorts out as she is sawing down through her bicep, and the remainder of her arm falls off on its own with a splat. Now, who's for dinner?
