10 More Horror Movie Characters Who Were Seconds Away From Surviving

9. Dewey - Scream

Oh, Dewey. Your nine lives finally gave out, didn't they?

Deputy Dewey should not have made it this far in the Scream series. The man has been attacked and left for dead so many times it became a running joke, but the latest instalment finally called time on this iconic character.

It's just a shame that the build up to Dewey's death is so frustrating and obvious.

After helping the new heroes escape from a Ghostface attack at a hospital, Dewey puts them in an elevator and then, suddenly, turns back. He'd shot the killer a few times but, this being his fifth time around, he knows they always come back if you don't hit them in the head.

Consequently, Dewey goes alone to finish the job, only to get blindsided and killed - a twist everyone saw coming as soon as he didn't bolt it with the others.

While Dewey attempting to finish the job is commendable, it's still a dumb thing to do in this specific moment. At the very least he could have made sure he had one of the survivors backing him up, but instead he tempts fate despite barely getting away in the first place.
