While horror fans have been long-trained to be immediately suspicious of gas station attendants, the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre gets something of an exemption given that it's widely credited with originating the trope.

Early in the film, Sally (Marilyn Burns) and her pals stop at the Last Chance Gas Station, where the proprietor (Jim Siedow) warns the youngsters about heading to an abandoned nearby house owned by Sally's family, instead trying to convince them to chow down on some of his BBQ.

And honestly, as gas station owners in horror movies go, the guy doesn't seem that off.

At least, until a terrified Sally returns to the gas station later on after an encounter with Leatherface (Gunnar Hansen) and he reveals his true colours, beating Sally and bringing her to the Sawyer family - that is, his family - to be killed.

Sally eventually escapes of course, but the proprietor also survives the events of the movie, going on to be formally identified as Drayton Sawyer in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, where he ultimately dies.
