10 More Horror Movie Sequels That Were Just Too Cruel

The fifth Resident Evil movie, Resident Evil: Retribution, ended with a tantalising cliffhanger where Alice (Milla Jovovich) and her ragtag team of survivors reluctantly joined forces with Albert Wesker (Shawn Roberts) to take down the Red Queen, who is attempting to wipe out humanity.

However, sequel Resident Evil: The Final Chapter largely dashed this setup aside, opening with Alice having been betrayed by Wesker and Alice's comrades Jill (Sienna Guillory), Leon (Johann Urb), and Ada Wong (Li Bingbing) nowhere to be seen.

The film bafflingly never explains what happened to the trio, and if that doesn't feel like enough of a middle-finger to franchise fans, the film's novelisation reveals that Jill, Leon, and Ada were killed by a mutant creature let loose.

For fans of the video games who propelled this series to a frankly baffling amount of box office success, that's a maddening, even insulting outcome, casting a dark cloud over the entire movie.
