10 More Horror Movie Villains Who Actually Won

8. Shooter - Secret Window

The Cleansing Hour
Columbia Pictures

Getting away with murder can sometimes be something we root for, like in that good old Shonda Rhymes series: How To Get Away With Murder. All those murders, I totally wanted them to get away with this. This guy however, I did not want him to.

Secret Window is interesting because it introduces a protagonist and an antagonist, which it later reveals to be the same person. Shooter, the delusional and violent writer, is another personality of Mort, the paranoid and traumatised writer - and by the time Mort realises this, Shooter takes total control and becomes the fronting personality.

On realising that Mort (slash Shooter) has been the one killing and doing bad things like arson the whole time, one would hope you’d be rooting for him to be caught. He is the bad guy after all who has killed people and also a dog - who kills a dog?

This wife-killer brutalises multiple people and disposes of their bodies, and we end the movie with it implied that he’ll get away with it forevermore as corpses decay underneath his corn plants.
