4. The Empty Man
David Prior's cult classic horror The Empty Man revolves around former cop James Lasombra (James Badge Dale), who while investigating the disappearance of his neighbour's daughter comes to learn of the mysterious titular supernatural entity.
James goes progressively deeper down this rabbit-hole as he investigates not only the Empty Man but the related cult that his neighbour's daughter was involved with, and the notion of tulpas - human forms manifested through intense spiritual concentration.
At the end of the movie, James tracks down the missing girl who informs him that he himself is a tulpa, one manifested by the cult to serve as a new vessel for the Empty Man, as the previous vessel is dying due to the physical strain of said task. After learning that his memories are nothing more than a fabrication and he's actually existed for mere days, James becomes inhabited by the Empty Man, as members of the cult bow to him, their plan complete.
