10 More Horror Movies With The Worst Monster Reveal
2. The Creature - Evil Of Frankenstein
In the 1950s, Hammer Studios ushered in a new era of monster movies, remaking classics such as Dracula, The Mummy, and Frankenstein.
Unfortunately, the Frankenstein saga ran into a problem straight out of the gate. Since Universal Studios owned the rights for the Creature's design from the 1931 film, Hammer couldn't depict the iconic figure with his trademark green skin, square forehead, and neck bolts. As a result, the first two Frankenstein films had to settle with a much lamer version of the Creature.
But in 1964, horror devotees were overjoyed to learn Universal had joined forces with Hammer for the third entry, Evil of Frankenstein. For the first time, Hammer could design Mary Shelley's iconic monster the traditional way.
Against all odds, this incarnation of the Creature was a disaster. It's impossible to take this depiction seriously, due to its smeared eyeliner and crummy makeup. The papier-mâché mask looks like it's going to slide off the actor's face at any moment.
Even though there have been countless Frankenstein adaptations over the past century, Evil of Frankenstein might have the worst Creature design of all time.
