10 More Horror Movies You Constantly Have To Defend Loving
3. Slither (2006)
When you ask someone what films come to mind when mentioning James Gunn, you're likely to hear a barrage of superhero flicks. He has dipped his toes into Marvel (Guardians of the Galaxy), DC (Suicide Squad/Peacemaker), and even original creations (Super). But, there is a far nastier side to this filmmaker, and Slither embodies that.
This grotesque film follows the events after a host of parasitic aliens invade a small town. They attempt to take over by converting citizens into monsters and breeders. Let's just say you'll need to bring a sick bag for this one.
Slither well and truly pushes the envelope. Its reliance on grossness is evident from the offset, which often leads people to think that's all it has to offer. However, while the film is disgusting, that's not all it has going for it.
Overall, Slither is a compelling alien invasion story with some fun characters, superb set pieces, and an irreverence that makes it infectiously fun. It's a well-crafted debut from a future legendary filmmaker and one you can't miss if you love horror.
Just don't eat whilst watching it.
