10 More Huge Movies That Were Instantly Forgotten

Tim Burton's "live-action" remake of Alice in Wonderland grossed over $1 billion in 2010, and so it was merely assumed that audiences would turn out in droves for 2016's sequel, Alice Through the Looking Glass.

But with Burton ceding the director's chair to James Bobin (The Muppets) and audiences having grown tired of Johnny Depp's over-the-top shtick, the follow-up was a shocking box office flop, grossing less than $300 million globally.

This marked the worst box office decline for a sequel to a billion-dollar movie in history - until it was outdone by last year's The Marvels, that is.

It's fair to assume that most audiences were quite happy with Alice in Wonderland being a "one and done" outing.

The sequel didn't exactly have a great hook, and so despite its wild visuals and a wacky villainous performance from Sacha Baron Cohen, it faded from public memory in record time.

Seriously, there are large swaths of folk who don't even know there's a second Alice movie at all - that's how little impact this thing left on its way out the door.
