10 More Important Movie Characters Who Were Killed Off Screen

With The Hunger Games, 24 children from the poorer districts of Panem were pitted against each other in an annual fight to the death. It was a cruel form of oppression that punished the innocent, but those kids whose names were pulled out at the Reaping each year weren't the only ones in danger.

President Snow (Donald Sutherland) was a ruthless leader, and took no issue with killing his own either if he deemed it necessary or as a form of punishment. The latter was the case for Seneca Crane (Wes Bentley), who was the Head Gamemaker for the 74th Hunger Games. It was Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen and Josh Hutcherson's Peeta Mellark who ultimately sealed his fate.

The whole point of the Games, as far as President Snow saw it, was to offer the districts hope. False hope in reality, but hope. This came with the victor, whose life would be transformed thanks to Snow and his Games, showered with riches and adoration. However, when Katniss and Peeta threatened to both kill themselves, leaving the Games with no victor, they essentially showed that the system could be broken and beaten, and the President saw this as his Head Gamemaker's failure.

Seneca Crane was led into a room with nothing but a bowl full of the Nightlock poison with which Katniss and Peeta would have killed themselves had they not instead been declared joint victors. Nothing more needed to be shown to know what happened next.
