Darren Aronofsky is a director with some powerful outings to his name, including the likes of Black Swan, The Whale, and the incredibly divisive Mother! Among them is The Wrestler, featuring arguably Mickey Rourke's finest-ever performance.

Aging and semi-retired wrestler Randy 'The Ram' Johnson (Rourke) chased one last high from the sport he loved, even in the face of pleas from friends and doctors not to after suffering a heart attack. However, with nothing in his life left to lose, Randy gave everything to the match.

While climbing to the top rope, the titular wrestler began to feel pains in his chest, but with tears in his eyes, went for his signature move anyway. He dives past the camera but the movie neglects to show the aftermath of his landing. While it's easy to assume that there weren't positive consequences, it didn't take the director long to answer the question that everyone was asking.

When talking to MTV, in spite of the interviewer pointing out that Aronofsky leaves a lot of things in his movies down to audience interpretation, the director seemingly confirmed that Randy the Ram does in fact die in the ring as the screen goes black. Though it may have seemed pretty obvious, as the director put it, nothing is certain in a Darren Aronofsky film unless it comes from the man himself.
