10 More Movie Answers Given YEARS Later

5. How Could Han Solo Make The Kessel Run In Less Than 12 Parsecs? - Star Wars - Episode IV: A New Hope

A big part of Han Solo's (Harrison Ford) appeal as a character was the mystery that surrounded him. His background was never truly explored, and he was like this enigma, a rogue element that helped the Rebel Alliance and grew into one of the galaxy's biggest heroes.

Solo: A Star Wars Story did rob some of this intrigue from him, in particular with the mind-numbing explanation of where he got his surname, but there was at least one thing the movie managed to do. After years of pondering one line of dialogue from Episode IV, the question of doing the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs was finally answered.

As part of boasting to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) and Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) how great the Millennium Falcon was, he proudly claimed that the ship made the Kessel Run in less than 12 parsecs. However, with a parsec being a unit of measurement rather than a unit of time, a huge question mark hung over this conversation for almost 40 years.

When escaping the mines of Kessel, after triggering a whole uprising, a young Solo (Alden Ehrenreich) had to navigate the famous route that was full of obstacles and people trying to kill him. The boast comes from the fact that, thanks to some genius piloting and shortcuts, he was able to escape Kessel in the most direct route possible, whereas most others would have had to travel much further around to avoid everything safely.
