10 More Movie Moments Everyone Was Waiting For (That Never Happened)
1. The Quidditch World Cup - Harry Potter & The Goblet Of Fire
With a source material so vast, and a lore so deep as that of Harry Potter, there were always going to be aspects of the books that didn't make the final cut of the movies. Some of these feel like bigger omissions than others.
The likes of S.P.E.W. and Peeves (as entertaining as Rik Mayall's portrayal of the poltergeist was sure to be) didn't make too much difference, but fans of both the books and the movies have a right to feel robbed that there was nothing shown of the Quidditch World Cup final.
The game itself wasn't necessarily important to the plot, so long as Viktor Krum as a character was introduced and the Death Eaters attacked the event, but the opening scenes spent so much time building up to the game that it seemed a short-change to fans to cut to the aftermath just as Cornelius Fudge announced the flying broom equivalent of kick-off.
We could have spent less time in the crowds, or listening to Ron gush over Krum after the game, and just seen at least just a spot of Quidditch. Or even tweak the source material slightly so as to have the attack come just before the game started. Either way, going so far as to include Fudge's opening speech only to skip it entirely feels like it needlessly built expectations of seeing the game itself.
