3. Rey The Sith - Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker

Overall, the Star Wars sequel trilogy did the impossible and actually made the prequels look good. However, such is the power of the franchise that even after the incredibly divisive The Last Jedi, expectation and anticipation for Episode IX hadn't waned one little bit.

This was to be the conclusion of the Skywalker Saga, and there was one scene in a trailer released as part of the D23 presentation that piqued interest more than most. The very last frame of the 'Special Look' showed Daisy Ridley's character sporting a fancy double-edged lightsaber, sporting the unmistakable red hue of the Sith.

There were rumours and theories swirling about, helped of course by the obvious connection between Rey and Kylo Ren previously explored. Plenty of people went into The Rise of Skywalker fully expecting Rey to turn to the Dark Side, not least because they had seen it happen in the trailer.

The shot was ultimately nowhere to be seen in the final cut, and instead of joining the Dark Side, Rey convinced Ben Solo to renounce his evil lifestyle and join her before his death. This would have taken the franchise in a vastly different, and dare this writer say more interesting direction than it ultimately went.
