While he did offer up more than a few truly disturbing and instantly iconic beats over the course of Matt Reeves' first trip into Gotham, there is one particular utterance The Riddler let loose during his quest to "unmask the truth" in this year's The Batman that becomes even more unsettling once you scratch the surface.

As you likely stumbled upon in the lead-up to this most recent take on all things The Dark Knight, this version of The Riddler was heavily inspired by the real-life Zodiac killer.

So, in a pretty chilling nod to that legitimate riddling serial killer, Reeves opted to lace in a line that seemed to be inspired by one of said Zodiac's creepy trademarks.

Introducing himself in one of Edward Nashton's frightening live streams by declaring, "This is The Riddler speaking", this is actually identical to how the Zodiac killer greeted the police during their messages to the law, with the real-life figure often opening with a line of "This is the Zodiac speaking" in their cryptic notes.
