10 More Movie Sequels You Have No Idea Were Just Released
1. Buddy Games: Spring Awakening
Hands up those who expected a sequel to 2019's WWE-produced, critically panned comedy Buddy Games to get a sequel.
Nobody? Right.
The Josh Duhamel-written-and-directed comedy, about a group of friends who reunite to partake in a series of gruelling mental and physical challenges, was destroyed by critics, grossed less than $1 million at the box office, and basically seemed like an all-around failure.
What a surprise it was, then, when follow-up Buddy Games: Spring Awakening was released back in May, coming totally out of nowhere and landing with only the most minimal marketing presence.
Though few critics even bothered to review this one, it was again mostly panned by those who did, and evaporated into the streaming ether the very weekend it was released.
As for how the sequel's production can be justified? Back in April it was announced that the Buddy Games concept is being adapted into a reality TV show format with Duhamel serving as its host, and so the sequel was likely greenlit in an attempt to drum up publicity for it.
To that end, it wouldn't be the most shocking thing in the world if we ended up with Buddy Games 3 before too long - especially if the reality show is a hit.
