10 More Movie Storylines Actors REFUSED To Do
8. Joseph-Gordon Levitt Wouldn't Kiss Anna Kendrick - 50/50
The semi-autobiographical drama follows a 27-year-old called Adam (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) who's diagnosed with spinal cancer.
While prepping for the surgery, Adam begins having sessions with a trainee therapist, Katherine (Anna Kendrick). Though the two develop feelings for one another, they decide to keep things professional until Adam's surgery. After the tumour is successfully removed, the film concludes with the pair readying for their first official date.
It's a sweet ending, but it was meant to include a bit more romance. The studio originally wanted to have a typical lovey-dovey climax, with Adam and Katherine kissing.
In an interview with MTV, Kendrick said she considered locking lips with Gordon-Levitt just to see if it worked. Her co-star "very wisely stood up and said, 'If we give it to them as an option, they will use it.' So we just decided not to do it, because it really just didn't feel right."
It may seem like a mild detail but it would've made a big difference. Something as innocent as a kiss could take away from the cancer survivor story, making 50/50 feel more like a romcom.
