10 More Movie Villains You Didn't Realise Actually Won

6. Helmut Zemo - Captain America: Civil War

Watchmen Matthew Goode

Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl) is one of the MCU's most fascinating antagonists to date, given that he hasn't got any supernatural abilities and isn't a particularly physically imposing individual - he's simply an aggrieved man with one hell of a plan, and all the smarts to pull it off.

Though Zemo is captured and prevented from committing suicide by Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) at the end of the Captain America: Civil War, he did everything he set out to accomplish. That is, cause a gigantic schism between The Avengers by pitting Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) against Captain America (Chris Evans).

Zemo did something that even far more powerful villains - at least on paper - couldn't do; he damn-near broke The Avengers, in turn leaving them wildly unprepared for Thanos' (Josh Brolin) arrival in Avengers: Infinity War while successfully avenging his family's deaths in Sokovia.

And even if you picked up on all this, it gets better. In the Disney+ MCU series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Zemo won again, successfully wiping out the last of the super-soldiers just as he planned to do, no matter that he's imprisoned in The Raft for his troubles.
