What We Knew

Back in February, Idris Elba was announced to star in MGM's supernatural thriller Deeper, in which Elba's former astronaut protagonist would pilot a submersible to the deepest part of the ocean and encounter some supernatural phenomena.

Baltasar Kormakur (Everest) was set to direct a screenplay penned by Max Landis (Chronicle, Bright), with the film's tone being likened to recent sci-fi survival hits Gravity and The Martian.

Why It Was Cancelled & The Future

The project was torpedoed earlier this month after eight women levelled damning sexual and emotional abuse allegations against Landis, prompting MGM to pull out along with Elba.

Though producers could theoretically shop the film around to other studios, given the radioactivity surrounding Landis and his script, there's virtually no chance of this project being salvaged.

No producer or studio with any sense wants to be seen to be rewarding a sexual predator, so it's safe to say that Deeper is dead and buried forever.
