6. Rudy (1993)

The Greatest Showman Hugh Jackman
TriStar Pictures

From a time before football was laced with concerns about head injuries and other controversies, Rudy became a source of inspiration for many. In it, at the famed University of Notre Dame, a dyslexic and undersized student named Rudy Ruettiger manages to get on the field for one game and performs outstandingly.

According to the movie, there was a great deal of pushback from the team's legendary head coach, Dan Devine, who only agreed to let Ruettiger dress for the game after other members of the team threatened not to play. These threats never happened and Devine was actually very supportive of Ruettiger and it was his idea to let him dress for the game.

Other falsities include Ruettiger's bullying older brother, Kevin, who simply doesn't exist and the encouraging groundskeeper, who also didn't exist.

Perhaps the most famous critic of the movie has been Joe Montana, a member of the team who has seen been considered by some as the greatest to ever play the game. It might also take away some of the storybook quality of the film for some to find out Ruettiger later went on to be indicted for a stock fraud scheme.

I like to think I'm a clever person, but apparently I'm not clever enough to come up with a witty biography.
