10 More Movies Based On True Stories (That Were Total Lies)

2. Alexander (2004)

The Greatest Showman Hugh Jackman
Warner Bros.

Oliver Stone's 2004 epic about Alexander the Great was a box office bomb and took in critical reception to match. Sadly, some of the criticism was that the movie played out too much like a documentary with not enough action. These are words that likely send chills of fear through historians.

Much like Elizabeth: The Golden Age, there are likely too many errors to filter through, so we can go over a couple of the most memorable ones. One of the most divisive aspects was the film's presentation of the Persian Army. While in truth the Persians were a formidable force that took a lot of time and many battles for Alexander's forces to defeat, the movie has them as an undisciplined group who are taken down in a single conflict.

Others have also taken issues with the portrayal of Alexander's first wife, Roxanne (other sources also list her with other variations of the name, such as Roxana). There was some stir over Rosario Dawson's ethnicity compared to what Roxanne's ethnicity is believed to have been, but also that some found her to be portrayed as a wild schemer, rather than the doting mother and wife she is documented as having been.

I like to think I'm a clever person, but apparently I'm not clever enough to come up with a witty biography.
